We are excited to launch the 2023 Observership Program. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals to learn both practical and industry best-practice frameworks to use within broader life experience. The training program encompasses subject areas essential to not-for-profit governance, with high profile guest speakers invited to share valuable insights and teaches observers core governance principles they can apply immediately.

Over 8 Years of Success for The Observership Program

The Observership Program provides training and practical experience in not-for-profit board leadership and ongoing networking opportunities to create a passionate and motivated community of future leaders. With first-hand exposure to the role of the board, its decision-making and operations as well as targeted training and mentorship its designed to give Observers important skills to bring to the boardroom.

Working with JCA, the Program places young professionals on communal board to learn about board governance and create the next generation of communal leaders.

2022 Observers:

Jared Engelman - Australian Jewish Funders

“I applied to the Observership Program for the opportunity to experience first-hand the role of a director and their ability to enact change through their involvement with NFPs. It has been such a privilege to be part of the JCA stream of the program and I hope to use the training and experience to be able to give back in a meaningful way to both the Jewish and wider community.

Leanne Moss - NSW Board of Jewish Education

“I joined the program to broaden my exposure of education beyond the classroom, and to learn from a diverse team of talented individuals that comprise a board- from strategic ideas to conflict resolution, operations, risk and reward, I have been fortunate to witness conversations that have thought, reason and logic driving them to ensure the continuity of an organisation that has such an important and impactful role within our community. As an observer on the NSW Board of Jewish Education, my experience thus far has been about the 'Jewish Journey' and the necessity to create a strong Jewish identity. We get to plant the seed and nurture it to create that identity that drives our JCA connection.”

Luc Marshall-Weinberg - JCA Building & Capital Committee

“The Observership Program has been an excellent opportunity which has enabled me to build on my professional skills and gain valuable experience in working with community organisations. I now feel more connected to the community and in a better position to make a greater contribution in the future.”

Romy Stuhler - JCA Status Committee

“The Observership Program offers a unique opportunity to build skills and connections in the For Purpose space. I believe this will round out my passion for making a difference, help me be the best leader I can be and maximise my contribution to this amazing space. The JCA stream allows me to give back to an inclusive, strong and supportive community that we are a part of.”

Simon Weinstock - Hakoah

“The Observership Program demystifies Boardrooms - allowing you to peek behind the curtain of how decisions are made while learning practical skills to enhance your long term career. In aligning your experience and interests with the needs of a JCA NFP, you can add value to the community from the off.”
