Over $75,000 was awarded to the next generation of change-makers!
JCA’s Jumpstart Shark Tank continued it’s sell-out streak with the biggest audience yet, demonstrating the community’s hunger to help the next generation of creative thinkers.
Last night a record-breaking 500 were in attendance, with four impressive Sharks, all eagerly awaiting to uncover what the next big not-for-profit idea is.
Second prize of $15,000 went to Danny Hui for Sameview.
Third prize winner, Harry Rosen, representing YouthHEAR, won $5,000.
Shortly after announcing first, second and third prize winners, the room was electrified by what was to come: an additional three prizes!
Sameview won an extra $10,000 thanks to the All In Giving Circle for the People’s Choice Award! A prize that was introduced by 14-year-old Sienna Rosmarien who grew up in a giving circle family, now encouraging others to start their own giving circles in support of the community’s future.
Andrew and Taryn Boyarsky from JCA The Choice Foundation surprised Age Well with Mel and SameView each with an additional $5,000 prize for their incredible work in the age-care and disability sector.
JCA The Choice Foundation surprise Melissa Levi (Age Well with Mel) and Danny Hui (SameView) with an additional $5,000 prize.
The two remaining applicants, Brendan Pillman pitching for Braille Elements and Margaret Price pitching for Broken Hill Synagogue, left with unique winnings of their own.
Phil Green of Alceon, a major funder of Jumpstart over the years, stood up and announced that he would ensure that Brendan received the funding he needs to bring Braille Elements to fruition. On the same note, Richie Harkam as a bold Shark joined audience member x to seek community support for Broken Hill’s preservation of Jewish outback history.
By the end of the night, everyone was a winner.
An incredible community event to end the year for Jumpstart and JCA showcasing the spirit of our community and inspiring us to support those making a difference.
