JCA Announces COVID-19 Jewish Emergency Relief Fund
“Supporting the vulnerable in our community is an essential Jewish value.”
JCA, in partnership with JewishCare, has today launched the COVID-19 Jewish Emergency Relief Fund to provide assistance to members of our local Jewish community who are in financial crisis as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic. Initial funding of $1 million has been provided for distribution through JewishCare.
Who is eligible for financial assistance?
Any member of our community who is facing immediate hardship as a result of losing their job (or a substantial part of their livelihood) as a consequence of the pandemic – especially families with school-age children and individuals at risk of homelessness.
The Fund will fill the gap for those who are facing immediate hardship – as crisis funding for those who cannot be helped by new or existing government support programs.
What does the funding cover?
It covers essential needs – like food, shelter and medicines and any other critical goods or services not otherwise publicly available – up to a total of $5,000 per family.
How can people apply for assistance?
The Fund is a partnership between JCA and JewishCare. Please visit the JewishCare website at jewishcare.com.au for detailed information about available government support as well as instructions for requesting help from the COVID-19 Jewish Emergency Relief Fund.
Grants will be made at the discretion of JewishCare upon application and subject to a financial assessment (to ensure the money gets to those who truly need it).
Anyone in the NSW and ACT Jewish community in need of emergency financial assistance should contact JewishCare via email at [email protected]
