A rich history I’m still discovering

𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗬𝗔 π—žπ—”π—¦π—œπ—™ grew up as the only Jewish pupil in her Catholic school. As a young adult, she has forged her own sense of Jewish identity and place in the community. Chaya is passionate about history and found a home, working as an intern and researcher with JCA member organisations – the Sydney Jewish Museum and the Australian Jewish Historical Society .

Chaya’s passion for history led her to sift through hundreds of boxes of documents and ephemera, helping catalogue the history of our local Jewish community. Every box brings with it the excitement of discovery.

β€œBy unearthing history I make it available to the public,” she observed. “When you have access to your history and knowledge of your past, it presents a way forward and it preserves identity…it gives us community.”

Having previously felt estranged, Chaya is infectiously optimistic about the future of the Jewish community.

Your support of JCA helps SJM and AJHS continue to tell our story and ensures that our Jewish community remains vibrant and relevant for future generations.
